Watercolor magic happened at Robert Karr's first class with Shirley Bird Wright, who has gone on to be his mentor and continuous teacher. Because of that first class, Robert has studied with many of the top watercolor artists in the USA, and he has been very successful with his art.
Robert was 65 when he took his first class and has only been able to paint for limited times during the year because of the demands of his commercial iris garden. Even with this limitation, he has had numerous shows of his work with the art associations he belongs to (Evergreen Art Association in Newport and River Ridge Association of Fine Arts in Spokane). He has participated in group shows as well and solo shows, and been spotlighted in several newpapers and publications. He recently became a member of the Spokane Watercolor Society and the Palouse Watercolor Society.
Regional history and recording of local landscapes have captured Robert's interest as seen in his vivid paintings of barns and other old structures and his summer and winter scenes throughout Pend Oreille County in particular. Chinese ink and watercolor painting in both the spontaneous and detailed methods are of special interest to Robert. His work can be seen on Ink to Media's (his gallery) Spotlight on Artists website, in his studio in Newport, and on his web site, http://www.sprucecorner.com. While watercolor is Robert's passion, he also works in oils.
